# Postings, balances, and ledger

## Posting model

Finpace exposes a posting-instruction model rather than a vague transaction primitive.

A posting instruction:

* identifies source intent
* resolves value date and booking date
* checks limits and restrictions
* produces one or more customer-visible entries
* produces accounting effects
* preserves reversal lineage

## Balance model

Key balance concepts:

* current balance
* available balance
* uncleared balance
* hold amount
* overdraft headroom
* accrued interest
* pending fees

## Holds and reservations

Holds are first-class objects with:

* reason
* channel
* amount
* effective window
* release rule
* linked payment or case reference

## Ledger expectations

The documentation assumes:

* customer-facing balances are derived from authoritative postings
* accounting rules are configurable by product and event type
* reversal and correction actions preserve lineage
* operational reconciliation can trace from payment or servicing event to ledger impact

## Accounting controls

Relevant accounting objects:

* chart of accounts mapping
* product accounting rules
* accrual jobs
* fee and interest runs
* suspense and exception postings
* closing and correction journals

## Documentation rule

Never describe “transactions” in the abstract.
Always clarify:

* initiation object
* posting instruction
* customer entry
* accounting effect
* event emitted
